How-to Guides:  Detail

Riveted sheet metal Pt. 1

How-to Guide Website:  Not Available
This is an easy way to make a riveted sheet metal effect. Colors used were HOK base white, base black, orion silver, kandy tangerine, and a medium blue.
First a base white is sprayed over desired area. Then cover same area with the silver.
Next you will work light to dark in "stressing" the metal. Take kandy tangerine and make some areas where he metal might have oxidized and lightly spray to create a "rusting" effect. Make some movement lines in one direction. Next, take your blue and amek some more movemet lines alternating from the tangerine ones. BE CAREFUL not to use too much blue, it is just to "cool" the metal off a little. Come in with light dustings until it just barely sets itself off from the silver.
Next come the rivets!! Either painstakingly cut them out of masking yourself, or in this case I used a plotter to cut a square with a small circle in the middle of it. When making these stencils be aware of how big the rivets would need to actually be on whatever it is you are painting. I.E... a helmet would need smaller ones as opposed to a car or bike.
Next, take the square part and place them where you imagine the rivets would be as shown here. Thats all I have for the moment, I will continue this how to after the weekend.
