Has anyone else herd of using isopropal rubbing alcohol instead of water to thin/mix water based paints? If so what are the benifits?

I have used it to clean out my airbrushes, but never to thin the paint.

Temporary tattoo paints are made with alcohol and they are airbrush ready. So it can't be that toxic. I think much less than acetone , paint thinner or even windex which from what I've read alot of people here are using to thin their AA paints.

Its toxic

Is it?
Don´t know exactly what cind of alcohol is it?
But if it´s ethanol, it´s not more toxic than vodka!
Only thing it(ethanol) does to you if you inhale it, is to get you drunk (and after that hangover).

Rubbing alcohol is used in hospitals all the time to clean patients, from sponge bathes to wiping an arm before an infection. Most, if not all aftershave is alcohol based. Reading the directions on the bottle it says apply to the skin directly, or with a clean gauze. Caution says do not use in eyes or on mucus membranes, but ya should be wearing a mask even if ya thinned with water.

OMG Don't Do It! Someone might discover something, invent something or improve something...and we can't have any of that kind of behavior! We must talk this one out of it at any cost! (LOL)

I've tried it and gave it up. because...1) It makes it necessary to wear a mask. 2) It makes some paints coagulate and and gum-up the airbrush 3) it makes the work area smell like a hospital 4) there are other things that work better

Regular rubbing alcohol (70%) is not as bad as 90%, 99% or even aromatic alcohol which is almost like using paint thinner. Even denatured alcohol is not something I would spray without a mask. 70% alcohol is what is primarily in temporary tattoo paint which is sprayed and it's been around for years

Mixed with the paint? Or as surface prep.

I was answering mostly about it's toxic levels. The only thing I prep with alcohol is leather jackets and kicks. I've sometimes mixed it with my acrylics to stop tip drying but only works slightly as it evaporates faster that water.
